We were busy with coups and counter-coups, Buhari gives MAJOR reasons for not going back to school

- President Muhammadu Buhari has given reasons why he did not continue with his education as a military officer

- The president said during his days in the military, they were occupied with coups, counter-coups and war

- He encouraged military officers to endeavour to continue with their education especially during times of peace and stability

The president Muhammadu Buhari has given insights into his inability to continue with his education during his days as a military officer.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 14, by the senior special assitatnt on media and publicity to the president Femi Adesina, military officers back in the days were preoccupied with war, coups and counter-coups.

The statement was given during the decoration of President Buhari’s Aide-De-Camp colonel Mohammed Abubakar and the Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet, Air-Vice Marshal Sadiq Kaita, with their new ranks at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

President Buhari was quoted saying: “I am happy with the intellectual approach of the military. In our time, there was no time for academic pursuit. It was all about war, coups and counter-coups.”

President Buhari said modern military required superiority of intellect and imagination to achieve victory in warfare.

Impressed with the qualifications of the newly decorated officers Buhari urged all officers to ensure the translation of academic achievements to performance in the field and other places of assignment.

He urged military officers to make good use of times peace and stability pursue their intellectual transformation.

This he said should go side-by-side with hardware transformation of modern armies.

He encouraged the officers to read History, irrespective of their academic backgrounds.

He also said History is an key prerequisite for strategic learning and success in the military.

Congratulating the newly promoted senior officer, the president urged them to always be mindful of the welfare of those placed under their command.

The newly promoted officers had served Nigeria in various peace keeping missions abroad.

Buhari's emergence as president has faced various challenges including the controversy surrounding his Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE).
