Another trouble rears in Borno as police uncovers baby factory

- Borno state government has discovered a baby factory in the state

- The suspects behind the factory have been arrested and charged to court

Borno state government announced on Thursday, January 12, that it has discovered a baby factory were babies are being sold in the state.

According to Punch, Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kakashehu Lawal, disclosed this at a press conference in the state capital, Maiduguri.

Lawal said four women alongside the principal suspect were arrested for taking part in the crime.

He said that the “trend is a notorious fact which occurred in Galadima area in the state capital.’’

Lawal said: “After the restoration of relative peace in state capital and its environs, a lot of anti-social activities started to emerge ranging from drug addiction, lawlessness and prostitution.

“On September 12, 2016, we got an intelligence report by our civilian JTF in Gwange area in the town and we mandated them to arrest a woman who delivered a baby boy and came home without the baby.

“The suspects were taken to Gwange police station because of the magnitude of the crime and were later transferred to the police CID department.”

The commissioner said that one baby was recovered and another one was rescued during a raid on the factory at Galadima.
He said: “Sponsors of the factory were also arrested. The suspects were rraigned before the High Court Number 13.
“They are now in the maximum prison pending the next court hearing on the matter.”
Meanwhile the Lagos chapter of the Nigeria Police has arrested a pastor of the Divine Yard Deliverance Ministry in Iyana- Iyesi, Ota, Ogun State, Peace Udoh, for allegedly running a baby factory in the church.

The 47-year-old pastor was said to have sold 64 babies before she was arrested by operatives from the Lagos state police command who acted on a tip-off.

Udoh was apprehended with one Angela Akpan and a nurse, Mrs. Bukola Ajala, who reportedly assisted in childbirth at Udoh’s church.
