Jose Mourinho ‘Reaches Deal in Spanish Tax Dispute’     Manchester United manager José Mourinho is reported to have reached a deal with the Spanish state over a long-running tax dispute. He was accused of owing nearly €3.3m in undeclared image rights revenue for 2011 and 2012, when he was Real Madrid manager – an allegation he disputed. Spain’s El Mundo newspaper reported he had agreed to pay a fine of €2m (£1.8m; $2.3m). Mr Mourinho said earlier he had paid all the taxes he owed. El Mundo also reported that he had accepted a one-year suspended jail sentence. But sources close to the manager said no prison term had been imposed or accepted. Why are Spanish football stars in legal trouble? Spanish authorities launched the image rights case against Mr Mourinho in June last year. His representatives, Gestifute Media, said at the time that he had paid more than €26m in tax at an average rate of more than 41% while...

Saraki is not fit for Nigerian president – APC tells Nigerians  September 5, 2018 The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is unfit to lead Nigeria. Yekini Nabena, APC National Publicity Secretary, said this in a statement on Wednesday. He noted that while every Nigerian has the right to run for any office, there are many issues that border on such person’s integrity, antecedents, competence and capability to preside over the affairs of the country. Nabena stated that APC was aware that Saraki’s presidential declaration was a tactic to deflect attention from the deluge of issues he deals with, particularly ahead of the 2019 General Elections. He said pressure to reconvene the National Assembly, a fast-shifting political order in Kwara State, among others were a few examples. Nabena wrote: “By virtue of Saraki’s antecedents, he is an abysmal failure and is totally incompetent to offer himself as a...

Akpabio is truly changed, didn’t import impunity into APC — Ikotidem ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2018 NEWS WATCH, A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Edet Ikotidem has dismissed insinuations of erstwhile Governor Godswill Akpabio importing impunity into the party. What matters is the policies and programmes of that particular political party. What dr...

Amid threats to national security there remains national interest in rule of law

Amid threats to national security there remains national interest in rule of law ON SEPTEMBER 5, 201810:00 NEWS , VIEWPOINT COMMENTS By Tani A. Molajo, SAN The title of this commentary is inspired by the sanguine affirmation made by Lord Atkin over 70 years ago in his dissenting judgment in Liversidge v. Sir John Anderson & another (1942) AC 266 @ 244, to wit: Rule of law “In this country, amid the clash of arms, the laws are not silent. They may be changed but they speak the same language in war as in peace. It has always been one of the pillars of freedom, one of the principles of liberty for which on recent authority we are now fighting, that judges are no respecter of persons and stand between the subject and any attempted encroachments on his liberty by the Executive, alert to see that coercive action is justified IN LAW” Though rendered by an English Court (the House of Lords), that judgment remains of profound Nigerian – nay, universal importance. It exhaus...

SHOCKING !!! SEE   WHAT   ABSU   UMUAHIA   CAMPUS   PAST JCCF   PRESIDENT   WAS   CAUGHT   DOING It was shocking as the past president of the joint Christian campus fellowship which is equivalent to CAN in the campus world was seen using electric wire to make men outlandish collections like lapel rose, bow ties, etc. When appoarched by newsmen he said it all started in his 300 level when he was faced with the worse financial challenge in his entire life.He went to an uncompleted building to sort out his life,on getting there "I saw an abandoned wire and I cut a little". As I was thinking I was twisting it until I noticed that I had developed a fine design . in his exact words"I knew that koman collection was born".That was how my journey started. It became from one design to another, from one lapel to lapel rose etc. Most times I make what I wear. MOST TIMES I MAKE WHAT I WEAR when asked his greatest challenge during the course of his business,...

The new rule, a campaign pledge of President Emmanuel Macron, was brought in under a law passed in July which for primary and junior schools also banishes tablets and smart watches. High schools, which teach students aged 15 to 18, can introduce partial or total bans on electronic devices as they reopen after the summer break, though this will not be obligatory. Proponents say the law, which has prompted vigorous debate, will reduce distraction in the classroom, combat bullying, and encourage children to be more physically active during recess. “I think it’...

I CAN NOT AFFORD APC NOMINATION FORM FOR PRESIDENT SAYS BUHARI President Muhammadu Buhari has complained to the National Working Committee members of the APC  that N55 million nomination fee is too high for him. It is gathered that a member of the National Executive Committee of the party revealed that the President “has complained to the party that he could not afford it.” It woukd be recalled the President had four years ago complained over the N27.5 million nomination forms for the Presidential ticket and had argued that if he had his way, he would have ensured downward review of the fees. However, the National Working Committee of the APC has reviewed the nomination forms upward to the tune of N55 million. While the Presidential Nomination form goes for N50 million, the Expression of Interest Form costs N5 million. Also reviewed upward are the cost of nomination forms for the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembl...

Formal Absu Sug secretary general, celebrated for his write up:FRIENDSHIP AND MARRIAGE

Image
The one time Absu sug secretary general was commended by the writer association of Nigeria for his article;*FRIENDSHIP AND MARRIAGE*.this article they said used a simple but understanding language which will not just educate both the layman but everybody. They also encourage youth to get involved and developed the culture of writing. they article: FRIENDSHIP AND MARRIAGE*   _(A brief pointer)_ It is an anomaly that someone gets married and after some months, a divorce results. Friends! MARRIAGE  SHOULD STEM FROM FRIENDSHIP!!! One should not marry who he/she doesn't know; who he/she hasn't aligned with; little wonder the ill stories of breakup/ divorce. Also, money/wealth/affluence are so nice and wonderful, but can it stop being a major basis of today's marriage? A man must not be so wealthy to a fault before you accept him for marriage as a lady. It's even in marriage that fruitfulness and blossom can "spring forth'' because "...he that findeth...

2019: Nigeria Will Regret Having Youth As President — Sagay *Blasts Proponents Of Not-Too-Young-To-Run Movement Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) on Monday said Nigeria would be embarking on a dangerous journey if it elected a youth as president. In a chat with DAILY INDEPENDENT, on Monday, Sagay said there was no evidence that youths were better than elders in leadership. He argued that anyone thinking youths would perform better in positions of authority in Nigeria was shallow-minded. While urging the youths to come out and fight for power, he argued that power was not served a la carte, adding that the older generations would not willingly hand over power to youths on a platter of gold unless the younger generations worked for it. The constitutional lawyer also lambasted proponents of the Not-Too-Young-To-Run movement, urging them to wait till they attain the constitutionally requir...

*Shehu Saddam Malam Madori* replys A. B Mahmoud and 2.1 saga

*Shehu Saddam Malam Madori* writes on Facebook A. B Mahmoud and 2.1 I must state without any equivocation that I was more disappointed than surprised at the statement of the President of the Nigerian Bar that there is a need to raise the standard of the legal profession by admitting only students that make a 2.1 into the Nigerian Law School. I think the President has lost touch with the reality of the Nigerian situation and has infact disappointed many that believed his brave new bar agenda just over a year ago. If that statement is indeed a result of his genuine concerns regarding the decline in the quality of legal profession, then the statement or suggestion as the case may be is out of place. The President should call for a holistic and foundational reforms in legal education, from the point of entry, to the quality of lecturers, to the upliftment of infrastructure in Nigerian Universities, to fighting corruption in the Universities, combating sexual harassment down to the prote...
